Since being first announced in 2014, Alexa has continuously become more natural, knowledgeable, conversational, context-aware, and capable of self-learning. All this has been achieved by Alexa science and engineering teams who continuously advance the state of the art in machine learning and other techniques to create intuitive experiences for customers.
On Thursday, Dec. 3, Ruhi Sarikaya, Alexa AI director of applied science, joined Jeff Blankenburg on Alexa & Friends to discuss the ways he and his team are working to enable more natural and friction-free interactions with Alexa. Sarikaya has 20 years of experience working in artificial intelligence and conversational AI domains. He has authored more than 120 publications, and was recently elevated to IEEE Fellow for his leadership in spoken-language-processing and conversational understanding systems.
Their discussion touches on Sarikaya’s career, from his time working on digit recognition to his work with Alexa, including how deep learning, improved machine learning systems, sensors, and increased computing power contribute to Alexa’s capabilities, as well as Sarikaya’s new title as an IEEE Fellow.
